How do I apply to be in the parade?

The 2021 theme is ‘Right Down Santa Claus Lane’.

 

What types of groups are in the parade?
Floats, balloons, bands, marching units, dance units, community groups and more!

What streets are going to be closed for the parade and when do they start to close?
Mathis Avenue from Liberia Avenue to Sudley Road at 6:00am
Carriage Lane and Reb Yank Drive at 6:00am
Sudley Road from Mathis Avenue to Centreville Road at 9:45am
Prescott Avenue from Centreville Road to Center Street at 9:45am
Center Street from Prescott Avenue to Peabody Street at 9:45am

Where is the best place to view the parade?
Anywhere along the route!  We recommend going early, especially if the weather is nice.  You may want to bring blankets, chairs, etc.

Is there handicap parking available?

Where do I park?
Along the side streets of the parade route or in the parking garage in Historic Downtown.

Where are the restrooms along the parade route?

What if it rains or snows?
In the event of inclement weather, the parade will continue as scheduled.  There is NO postponement or rescheduling of the parade.

Do you have a lost and found?
Yes, at City Hall located at 9027 Center Street or contact any of the parade marshals along the route.

Where do I go if I am in the parade and at what time?
A representative from your group will receive that information at the Participant Meeting in November.  We do recommend arriving early, especially if you have a float or vehicle to place.

I am dropping off a participant or volunteer but not staying at the parade.  Where do I drop off?
A representative from your group will receive that information at the Participant Meeting in November or at the Volunteer Meeting in December. 

I am picking up a participant or volunteer at the end of the parade.  Where do I pick up?
A representative from your group will receive that information at the Participant Meeting in November or at the Volunteer Meeting in December. 

I am a volunteer, where do I go?
You will receive more information at the Volunteer Meeting in December. 

I have participated before, do I have to attend the Participant Meeting?
The meeting is mandatory for everyone even if you have participated in years past.  A representative from each organization must be present. 

When and where is the Participant Meeting?
The meeting is on Thursday, November 18 at 7pm at Park-West Lions Club.

When and where is the Volunteer Meeting?
The meeting is on Wednesday, December 1 at 6pm. Location TBD

Who is responsible for judging the parade entries?
The judges are actual judges in our local Prince William County Court System.  

What criteria is used for judging the parade entries?
ALL entries are judged on their Christmas Spirit. Performers are judged on their performance at the Judge’s Viewing Stand.  Floats are judged on their adherence to theme, as well as their construction effort. 

How do I find out who the winning entries are?
We will announce the winners on Facebook and on the website within 48 hours after the parade is held.  We will also contact the winning entries to invite them to be recognized.

When are the winning entries recognized?
They are recognized at the City Council Meeting at City Hall in December.  City Hall is located at 9027 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110.

Can we have a Santa on our float?
This year the answer is YES!!! Typically, there is only one Santa in the parade and we supply him. In honor of our 75th parade and our theme, we invite EVERYONE to have a Santa theme!

Am I able to throw candy or other items to spectators?
NO.  You are allowed to hand it to them only.
